Our School Crest represents represents the old city walls and gates, Dublin has grown in the past 800 years and the walls which contained the city once upon a time have long since been torn down. However, here and there, portions of the wall can still be seen and Cook Street is one of these fortunate areas.
This area was the site of one of the original river crossings of the old city; gates and towers were erected for its protection. The sole surviving city gate is visible at St Audoen’s Arch on Cook Street, known as St Audoen’s Gate; this would have been one of the main entrances into the medieval city.
Heritage is our history. It is responsible for how we came to be, it is a very large part of who and what we are, and it can determine what we will become. Our school crest identifies St Audoen’s NS; it is unique and represents our history and traditions as well as encompassing our sense of unity and belonging.
