Digital Learning

Digital technology is embedded in all aspects of modern life. In St Audoen’s we have access to technologies that are transforming how we connect, learn, share, work and play in innovative and exciting new ways.

In St Audoen’s NS each classroom has an Interactive Whiteboard, a powerful tool allowing the integration of media content into lessons and supporting collaborative learning while creating a wide range of learning opportunities. We have access to laptops and tablets for each class and we are very fortunate to have a ‘Smart Classroom’, with thanks to Samsung Ireland. This is a fully equipped classroom with tablets for each student; these technologically enhanced classrooms foster opportunities for teaching and learning by integrating learning specialised software, networking, and audio/visual capabilities.

Using modern technology students can access a vast range of digital tools, resources, and environments that support learning. As a school we can collaborate with others learners and experts far and wide, creating opportunities for progressive and diverse learning experiences.

Such opportunities develop our student’s higher order thinking skills, provide creative and individualised options to express their understandings and leave students better prepared to deal with ongoing technological change in society and the workplace.

We are committed to giving our pupils the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a digital world. Our students have access to a wide range of ICT programmes and tools that make learning fun, creative, and interactive, including:

  • Accelerated Reader – supporting a love of reading

  • Scratch Coding – introducing programming and problem-solving skills

  • Micro:bit Robotics – hands-on STEM learning

  • Movie making and editing

  • Podcasting

  • Stop-motion animation

  • Project work and online research

  • Kahoot! quizzes – interactive learning and revision

  • Manga High – engaging maths challenges

Alongside developing digital skills, we also place a strong emphasis on online safety and wellbeing. Students take part in dedicated lessons and workshops using:

  • WebWise – internet safety education

  • DCU FUSE – anti-bullying and digital resilience programme

These programmes ensure our pupils are not only confident users of technology but also responsible and safe digital citizens.

This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to:

  • Purchase Chomebooks for senior and junior classes and charging trollies for both
  • Purchase tablets for the junior classes with a charging trolley also
